Controllers

macOS 11.3+ · Intel & Apple silicon · Version 2.1.0
A must-have app for any gamer. You'll be able to use console controllers to play almost any game on Mac, even games that don't have built-in support for controllers.

01 / Make it yours
Turn buttons, sticks, and triggers into keyboard and mouse actions. Bring your favorite controller to games that don’t have built-in controller support.

02 / Better together
Map several controllers at the same time, each with its own layout—even two of the same model. Use separate controls for each player, or a Joy-Con in each hand. Your setup stays yours when you reconnect.

03 / Dial it in
Aim with a supported controller’s motion sensor, move the pointer with a stick, or use a PlayStation touchpad for cursor control and scrolling. Tune sensitivity, dead zones, and response curves to find your feel.

04 / Stay in the game
Give every game or app its own layout and let Controllers switch automatically. Bind a button to change layouts—or hold it to use a temporary set of controls. Duplicate, search, and export your layouts as JSON for backup or sharing.

Repeat an input, send keys in sequence, or use a double tap. Advanced binding modes give familiar buttons more to do.
Assign keyboard combinations, mouse buttons, and text strings. Useful in games—and in the Mac apps you use every day.
Exclusive mode keeps supported controllers from also sending native input to your game. Use mapped controls without competing inputs.
Switch layouts from the menu bar, check wireless battery levels, and connect controllers through the in-app Bluetooth panel.
Adjust cursor and scroll sensitivity, dead zones, and joystick response. Supported gyro controls can activate with a hold or a toggle.
Motion, battery reporting, and Exclusive mode depend on your controller and connection. Check Compatibility

Good to know
Yes. Controllers translates controller input into keyboard and mouse actions, so you can use it with games and apps that accept those inputs.
Controllers Lite is the companion app for testing your controller. It tests inputs without mapping them to keyboard or mouse actions.
macOS 11.3 or later, on Intel or Apple silicon. Grant Controllers Accessibility permission so it can send keyboard and mouse events.
macOS requires this permission to let Controllers send the keyboard and mouse events you assign. Without it, you can see controller inputs, but your mappings won’t control games or apps.
Yes. Controllers maps multiple connected controllers simultaneously, each with its own layout. Even identical models can have different bindings.
No. It requires a supported direct HID connection. MFi controllers and Switch 2 controllers connected over Bluetooth cannot use Exclusive mode.
